15 Tips to Simplify Your Life from Our NYC Professional Organizer
Last week we shared 15 tips from our NYC Professional Organizer to help simplify your life this spring. Now we’re back with more advice to help you rid yourself of physical and emotional baggage and get back to basics!
- Hit Unsubscribe: Remove yourself from emails, newsletter and RSS feeds that you no longer find value in. Take some time to clean up your social media pages as well, unfollowing any users that are simply cluttering up your feed.
- Say I’m Sorry: When you’re wrong, apologize immediately. Admitting that you’re in the wrong is hard, but it will lift a huge weight off of your shoulders!
- Unplug: Limit your screen time online and TV time. Our NYC Professional Organize notes that you’ll have so much more time to accomplish the things you’ve been telling yourself you don’t have time to do, like finally finish that best seller or take up a new hobby.
- Get Some Fresh Air: Eat al fresco, take a walk on your lunch break, or test out your green thumb with some gardening. Spending time outside helps us recharge and take in that much needed Vitamin D – just don’t forget your sunscreen.
- Use Cash When Possible: The beauty of using cash is the physical reminder of your spending. It’s the simplest form of money management; when it’s gone, it’s gone. You’ll either find that you’re better at stretching a dollar than you thought or that you may want to consider slowing down your spending.
- Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help: Though working through your problems on your own is satisfying, asking for help can often help you reach a solution much quicker – and with less frustration!
- Leave the Drama at the Door: You don’t need other people’s negativity in your life. Whenever possible, avoid engaging with gossips and ignore the drama.
- Rethink Perfection: We all want to do our best, but striving for perfection in all that we do can be a burden. Our NYC Professional Organizer recommends letting go of the need to be perfect and focusing on promptly getting the task done so that you can move on to the next one.
- Delegate: You don’t need to be the one who does everything on your to do list. Share the tasks with others who are just a capable but may have more time in their schedules. This recent post offers some time management tips for effective delegation.
- Limit Your Wardrobe: One of our unconventional time management tips is to reduce your wardrobe and stick with classic pieces. You’ll spend less time trying to figure out what to wear – and organizing your closet – and you’ll always be fashionable.
- Complete Outstanding Tasks First: Finish the tasks you’re working on before moving to a new one. This removes the sense of anxiety that builds from multitasking and gives you the satisfaction of crossing an item off your to do list!
- Implement the One-In-One-Out Rule: This is a favorite of our NYC Professional Organizer! For each new item (be it clothing, kitchen accessory, tech gadget, etc.) donate, give away or toss one – or two if you’re feeling ambitious!
- Carry Just the Essentials: Your purse is not a catch-all. Clean it out, keeping only the items you truly need on a regular basis.
- Excess Baggage: Place new garbage bags at the bottom of your garbage can. This makes replacing the bag a breeze and taking out the trash less of a hassle.
- Begin a Gratitude Journal: Taking some time at the end of the day to jot down a few things you’re grateful for can really help put things in perspective.
